USA.MAH-JONGG.CLUB CLASSROOM

We encourage players to try different forms of Mahjongg games/play-styles: Mahjong or Mahjongg, two major categories, each with many branches throughout the world. After all the basic 136 tiles are always "the Core". Please keep an open mind, try something a little different and new. There is no need to follow a 'cult' or a rigid form. Remember, it's Cyber Age in a new millennium, let's enjoy the Internet SuperHighway Online-Surfing. The USAMJC & WORLDMJC are FREE!

USA/WORLD MAHJONGG CLUB

At this time there's no proper class for American/Jewish Jokers Mahjong, the following classes are mainly for Traditional/Chinese Mahjongg with international rules. Please go to page bottom to view 81 hands and points/scores.

USA/WORLD MAHJONGG CLASSROOM

* CLASSROOM A

Take-In : (one at a time)

......................pong..........................chow
Discard : (one at a time)

Final :
...
.pong.........chow............ho/ron/go-mahjongg

* OFFICIAL USA/WORLD MJC GAME RECORDS
The above Class A menu comes from a successful hand-record. It shows our USAMJC & WORLD MJC standard hand-record.
An "Offical USAMJC & WORLD MJC Game-Record" should have four hand-records for one particular game: one successful hand and three others, most likely; or four unsuccessful hands.
Each Round/Wind consists of four games and four Rounds come up to one Set of Mahjongg Competition. (16 games)

* HOW TO! (practice)
To exercise simply pick out 24 mahjongg tiles from your set: the first (Start) & the second (Take-In) rows.
Erect the Start hand of 13 tiles in front of you; they look familiar, don't they? As usual the Start hand is quite 'random' you may want to organize the standing tiles into groups.
Follow the menu and take in tiles one by one and discard accordingly. When there's a Pong, take the identical tile in and discard one from hand but lay the Pong set of three identical tiles open on your left hand side.
When there's a Chow, take the Chow tile in and discard one from hand but lay the Chow set of three sequent tiles open on your left hand side, too.
(If any "Flower" tile is taken-in lay it open on your left hand side and pick up another tile as the next take-in.)
Follow the whole menu until your hand is ready to go-mahjongg. You can sense how the game is played and how to work on your hand; remember, 'lady luck' will always have a say!
This successful hand could obtain 6 points under Hand #49, plus 1 more point under Hand #79; with a total of 7 points. If it's a go-mahjongg by self-drawn (take-in) another point under Hand #80 could be added onto its total score.
If it's Round 2 (South) the Pong set gets 2 points under Hand #60; if the player sits on South position of the table the Pong set gets 2 more points under Hand #61.

* CLASSROOM B
Start :

Take-In : (one at a time)
......F..
.......................................................................................
Discard : (one at a time)
.....
Final :
.F..
.............................................................game over

* HOW TO! (practice)
To exercise simply pick out 29 mahjongg tiles from your set: the first (Start) & the second (Take-In) rows.
Erect the Start hand of 14 tiles in fornt of you; they look familiar, don't they? As usual the Start hand is quite 'random' you may want to organize the standing tiles into groups.
Follow the menu and discard one tile first, it's because you're the first/opening player and you begin with 14 tiles, one more than the other three players. Then wait till your turn, take in tiles one by one and discard accordingly.
There's no Pong, Kong, nor Chow in this brave hand. Follow the whole menu until your hand is ready to go-mahjongg. You can sense how the game is played and how to work on your hand; remember, 'lady luck' will always have a say!
This unsuccessful hand is still waiting for when the game is over. (maybe another player on the table finishes with a successful hand)
This hand could have obtained 24 points under Hand #19, 6 points under Hand #49, 4 points under Hand #56 (if it's ho/ron/go-mahjongg by self-drawn), 2 points under Hand #62, 1 point under Hand #81 ....
Note that had the player retained and discarded instead, the hand would have been successful since the player would have had two and made the ho/ron/go-mahjongg. Eventually it's an unsuccessful hand, 'lady luck' turned away after a cruel tease of .
Also note that the player at first might have tried to make a regular hand; and then when 'East' and 'Red Dragon' came in, tried to make Hand #49 one-suit-with-honors; however, 'East' and 'Red Dragon' did not become triplets so the player tried to make seven pairs, Hand #19...

* CLASSROOM C

* HOW TO! (practice)
Start :

How would you deal with this Start/Opening hand? What's your plan/thought in the very beginning...

* SPECIAL CLASSROOM : HOW TO MAKE IVORY TILES

See Elephant Tusk, See Tusk cross-section! (lower left) See Ivory!
In Japan it has been announced that hand-craft Mahjongg tiles are officially 'of distinction'; they used to have hand-craft jade, agate tiles, etc., and yes, ivory tiles, now they have auto/power/electric Mahjongg Tables so hand-craft tiles have to go! Look what modernization has done to Japanese Mahjongg.....the last hand-craft master has retired, no more hand-craft Mahjongg; all he could do was to donate his tool sets to a museum and he made an illustration board to go with it, showing the unbelievable steps to create ivory Mahjongg. It's art, real art, but gone forever. Here you can see the thin ivory tile face with a hole on the back (female) and the thick bamboo block with an insert (male) to match.....(upper right)
However, we still have bone-on-bamboo Mahjongg with dovetail insertions! USAMJC and WORLD MJC are the 'promotor' to help preserve this ancient art form, please visit our Mahjong Shop and Mahjongg Store and find bone-on-bamboo sets: 601L-Grand (wood case American/Jewish), and 601L (Traditional/Chinese). As to how to make dovetail insertions between bone and bamboo we cannot display the technics because it is on-going art performance and trade secrets. We're just happy and proud that we help keep the art live and kicking.
