Carolyn : I would like to join the USAMJC club. Can you please explain how to post to a state list to find other local players?
We are full-time live-aboards on a boat. We are currently in Jacksonville, FL 32217 but will be cruising south on the St. Johns River for the next 2 months.
In the spring, we will start cruising up the east coast through Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, etc. We are from Texas and I haven't played Mahjong since last June, so having withdrawal symptoms ;>)
I will need FL for the next 2-3 months. You may want to also add GA, SC, NC, VA and MD to get us through spring and summer, or I can get in touch again when we head north, probably in March. I do not need TX as we do not plan to return there for several years.
Your web site will be wonderful for picking up occasional games as we travel. Thank you for offering this great resource! Carolyn carolyn@pelicanexpl.com

Special Notes (March, 2013).
Dear Sirs:
I am emailing from a London-based independent television production company called Wag TV. We produce a series for the Discovery Channel called How Do They Do It?, which looks at the manufacture of some of the world's most amazing products. We are currently producing our 10th series.
One of the stories we are filming is on the manufacture of Mahjong sets. We have a crew out in China at the moment filming this, but we would like to include a few shots of Mahjong being played elsewhere in the world as well. As it happens we have a crew due to film in the USA (around Boston and then up into Maine) in about two weeks' time, and I was wondering if you might be able to recommend any local Mahjong tournaments, clubs or societies in the region who might be willing to play a game on camera.
Below is a little more information about the show:
How Do They Do It? is one of the world's most popular technology magazine shows and is broadcast across the world to over 1.25 billion Discovery Channel subscribers. In previous series we have filmed stories about how NASA train astronauts, how 'time' is measured, how nuclear power works, how sea sponges are collected, how Bentleys are made, and how money is printed. We have also filmed everything from piano production with Steinway to silver mining in Mexico. More information about How Do They Do It? can be found here: http://science.discovery.com/tv/how-do-they-do-it/
Thank you for your time and I hope this is of interest. If you would like any more information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks, www.wagtv.com
The "MAHJONGG (traditional Bone-On-Bammboo sets)" episode was aired first time on US Science Channel -- Discover/National Geographic Network -- January 16 & 23, 2014
(Georgia 01/23/2014) I was very interested in the entire "american mahjongg espisode" on How do they do it. I was not surprised they choose the brits over us.
Here is why. Mahjongg has turned into a universal game with many..many different types of players. It's not your grandma's game anymore. So, why show that? I mean if I didn't already know the game I would not be interested by what they showed. It was snooze-city.
If they were willing to give us (americans) another try I would show them how we do it here in the A-T-L!! A southern accent is waaay more eye-opening than your average brit. Not that theirs are bad.

hfreedman@crawford.com[I would like to learn how to play Mah Jong and live in Atlanta. (Marietta) If you have any contacts or suggestions, that would be most helpful.]
I'm organizing a tournament in the metro Atlanta area. Is there any way you can help me spread the word? The tournament benefits the preschool at Congregation Etz Chaim in Marietta, GA. The tournament is on Sunday, January 26th from 1-4pm, the cost is $25. There are cash prizes and a really nice raffle. Here is a link with registration info: 2014-mah-jongg-tournament
